Romanesque Enthroned Virgin and Child c.1300This incredibly early carved work depicts the Enthroned Virgin and Child or Sedes Sapientiae (Throne of Wisdom). The association of the Blessed Virgin with glory and teaching was popularised in Catholic imagery from the mid 11th Century. Mary sits, enthroned, the Christ Child is swaddled in robes.
