Kittiwakes and Glacier, SvalbardSvalbard, about as far north as you can get and still find a hotel. This was taken from a small boat in one of the fjords, the glacier face rising behind like a wall of compressed blue glass. The scale is hard to convey until you notice the kittiwakes on that flat piece of ice in the foreground. Thirty or forty of them, perfectly content, dwarfed by the glacier behind. The light was flat and even, no direct sun, which is exactly what you want for ice.
