She witnessed growing opportunities for women that often remained out of reach for mill workers in minor industrial communities. Her modest scrapbook illustrates this discontent with three, small, mutilated family portraits. Carefully cutting herself out of each one, she was momentarily liberated from her deeply unfulfilled personal narrative.
