Walrus II, SvalbardFlat, grey Arctic water and a face full of whiskers. This young walrus surfaced right in front of me in the cold waters off Svalbard, curious enough to hold position and stare straight down the lens. No tusks visible here, just that extraordinary broad muzzle and those thick vibrissae bristling in every direction. The light was completely overcast, which actually works well for a subject like this. No harsh shadows, no blown highlights on wet skin.
