Through his own letters and pieces to Skjulte Skatter, we get the opportunity to follow him through the period from which he and his brother Aksel had started the magazine Skjulte Skatter, up to and including 1917, before Aksel began to get seriously ill. In this period Smith also writes several letters to close associates, such as Elias
