Sunset, the Gearagh, Co. CorkThe Gearagh is a remarkable place. It's the last remaining post glacial alluvial forest in Western Europe, spread across the Lee Valley west of Macroom. Most of it was flooded when the Carrigadrohid reservoir was created in the 1950s, and what remains are these ancient oak stumps, standing in shallow water like silent markers of what was lost.
