Weddel Seal, Portal Point, Antarctic PeninsulaPortal Point, on the Antarctic Peninsula. A Weddell seal lying perfectly still on the ice, completely indifferent to everything around it. The diffuse light flattens the whole scene into soft greys and whites, but the seal's mottled coat and the blue tones in the glacial ice behind it give the image its colour and depth.
